“I installed this wood burner in Oct 2009, and I waited a full year to write a review. At first I feared the firebox was too small, given the size of the hearth in which the stove now lives. I burn mostly Colorado native Ponderosa pine from my own property, which is of course locally seasoned. Even with the damper all the way down, this little wood stove can actually overheat our well insulated 3000+ square foot house, even with outside temps well below freezing. In addition to installing an insulated chimney liner, I also filled the hearth void with bulk insulation, and I routed the hearth’s existing combustion air supply to the insert’s combustion air intake (this air comes directly from outside, not from the living space). This combo makes for such amazing heat output, I can’t fully stoke the firebox after initial lighting or it will simply get too warm in my home.”

“The fireplace works fine in it’s most important aspect: generating heat. It has a stylish, very contemporary design. The glass front is thick and smooth and you don’t need to worry about cracking it. The blue backlit display turns off after a few seconds which is nice. Great remote that supports all functions. There are a few annoyances that were weighing too heavily for us and made me return it, though: First, since the unit is only a few inches deep and it is either wall-mounted or on the stand there is no easy way to hide the cord, which really spoils the appearance. The fan is a little noisy and keeps on running even when the heat is turned off, probably to cool the two lamps and to generate the light effect. The “crackling wood” sound effect sounds hollow and thin but can thankfully be turned off. Finally, the light effect is not realistic at all, just a waving background.”

I love this stove!!! After a week of going back in forth between this size and the smaller one, and reading countless reviews I made my choice and selected this larger one and I am so happy that I did!! I ordered the stove on Tuesday morning and it arrived Wednesday afternoon, how is that for service? It looks great and it fits perfectly under our TV. We live in a drafty house built in 1936 and even though we live in central Texas, the winters at times can be quite cold. Having always had a fireplace as a fixture in childhood memories, and loving its warmth and glow, I was determined to find something that could fit our needs and this was it!

As soon as it arrived, I literally lifted it out of the box and plugged it in. The remote is simply an on/off remote, which can be manually customized on the back of the unit so it can turn on/off according to your preferences. (I wish the remote was able to control the heat.) There are three controls on the back, a knob to adjust the heat/temperature level, a three part switch to turn the unit off, on, and remote mode, and a third switch to turn heat on/off, (a winning feature). Just for kicks I decided to crank up the heat and in no time, hot/warm heat was coming out of the bottom. I like that it was almost radiating heat with a slight force; I don’t like having heat blowing at me. This was putting out heat at the bottom and since heat rises it was no time before the room was toasty warm.

The stoves’ overall appearance is very pleasing, it reminds me of what one might find in an old farm house, but please keep in mind it is on the smaller size; 20 in long, 23 in tall and 10 in deep. But if you have a smaller, draftier room, such as a den, this will work great. And keep in mind; it is super light so you can move it around the house depending on where you are. I can’t wait to move it to the kitchen, for that nostalgic “fireplace in the kitchen” feeling!

The Dimplex CS3311 Compact Electic Stove has the same great flame-effect technology as other Dimplex products. There just simply is no better “artificial flame” at this price, and probably not at a higher price either.

I ordered this for basement rec. room. Both for the ambiance of a fireplace, and the heat to remove chill from winter weather. This little stove is a winner. Very well made, so easy to install… just plug it in to the wall. Can’t beat that. Flame effect, is really nice, in moments you forget it’s not real flames. Heating is more than satisfactory. Ease of use with heat control on back of unit, and on and off with remote. You can also just use the flame feature, during warm weather. Really makes a cozy atmosphere .
